Poor Mrs. Quack

One cold evening, a tired duck flew through the dark sky. Her name was Mrs. Quack, and she was searching for somewhere safe to rest.
At last, she spotted a quiet pond called the Smiling Pool. She glided down and landed with a long, tired splash.
A little rabbit named Peter heard the splash. He hopped quickly to the edge of the pool to take a look.
Mrs. Quack looked up and told Peter her story. 'A big storm came,' she said. 'And now I cannot find Mr. Quack anywhere.'
Peter sat down beside the water and listened carefully. 'You are safe here, Mrs. Quack,' he said softly.
Day after day, Mrs. Quack rested on the still water. She nibbled little green plants and slowly grew strong again.
Peter visited her every single morning to keep her company. 'You are safe here, Mrs. Quack,' he always said. And she believed him.
One bright morning, Mrs. Quack heard a sound from high above. It was a quack, far away but getting closer.
A wild duck came swooping down and landed on the pool right beside her. It was Mr. Quack. He had searched and searched until he found her.
Mrs. Quack and Mr. Quack swam toward each other and touched their heads together gently. They were so happy to be together again.
Peter watched from the bank as the two ducks floated quietly side by side. The sun was setting and everything was calm.
Peter smiled and turned home through the soft evening air. A kind friend makes the whole world feel safe.
